Jakarta Munch is where Indonesian flavors meet modern vibes. Founded by an Indonesian immigrant who turned challenges into opportunities, Jakarta Munch started in 2019 to bring a taste of Indonesia to the U.S. From debuting as the first Indonesian food stall at NYC's iconic Smorgasburg to thriving post-pandemic, Jakarta Munch serves bold, made-from-scratch dishes crafted with mostly locally sourced ingredients.
With great hospitality, fast service, inclusive options—gluten-free, vegan, or just plain delicious—we’re on a mission to make Indonesian food the next big thing while uplifting our Indonesian culture and immigrant communities.

Challenged by Chef Gordon Ramsay, Gabi Chappel heads to the Urban Hawker in Midtown Manhattan to explore a diverse array of Southeast Asian street food, speak with the vendors of Jakarta Munch and Hainan Jones, and see what she can learn about Singaporean, Malaysian, and Indonesian cuisine. Armed with her newfound inspiration, Gabi heads to the test kitchen to cook a Crispy Tofu Rice Bowl w/ Pickled Veggies & Spicy Peanut Sauce.
Where can you find some of the best Indonesian food in New York City? @StephaniePoetri recommends Jakarta Munch, located inside the Urban Hawker food hall at 135 W 50th Street in Manhattan. Stephanie was raised in the suburbs of Jakarta, and her 2019 hit "I Love You 3000" made her an international star. More recent singles like "Never Really Easy" and "Invited" slap just as hard, and are available to stream everywhere. During a recent tour date in NYC, Stephanie took us to Jakarta Munch, and broke down exactly what to order on the menu—a bevy of Indonesian drinks like jus alpukat to start, and then a rich, coconut milk-based curry called opor.
For the first time, Indonesian food is now available right in the heart of the tourist area in Times Square, New York City.
